– With the 2019-2020 season postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, teams had to think of creative ways to keep fans entertained
– The Wizards decided to keep the season going virtually by simulating the postponed games on NBA 2K and broadcasting them on Monumental Sports Network
– The Wizards Marvel Super Hero Day that was scheduled for April 3rd, 2020 got the virtual treatment and was played on NBA 2K
– Fans that tuned into Monumental Sports Network to watch were provided a link on the screen that gave them a chance to win a Bradley Beal in the spirit of Black Panther Bobblehead
– Game was played on December 30th, 2021 vs the Cleveland Cavaliers
– First 10,000 fans received a Bradley Beal in the spirit of Black Panther Bobblehead
– The event drew over 15,000 fans on a Thursday night before New Year’s Eve
– The game produced a 7% increase in attendance over average for a Thursday night and was the highest attended Thursday night game of the season at the time
– On December 28th, 2022, the Washington Wizards hosted their second Marvel Super Hero™ Night. This one-of-a kind activation featured,
– An exclusive custom Doctor Strange comic book featuring Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal to the first 10,000 fans in attendance
– A “How to Draw” event that featured Bradley Beal and Marvel’s Brian Crosby. Video was posted on both Marvel and the Wizards social channels as a social collab
– The night also featured in-stadium activations including scoreboard graphics and videos
– The Marvel Super Hero™ Day activation drew 20,476 fans, resulting in a 23% increase in attendance over average (avg. 16,594 / 23rd in NBA), vs non-traditional opponent Phoenix Suns (Highest attended game vs Phoenix since 2007/08 season,12/7/07 att. 20,173)
– The event was the the highest attended Wednesday game of the season and provided an 23% increase over average for a Wednesday game (avg. 16,553). It was tied for the highest attended game of season overall at the time (10/21 Home Opener: 20,476, 12/27 vs Philadelphia: 20,476). It was also the highest attended Wednesday game since 10/31/19 vs Houston (att. 20,476)
– In comparison to other Wizards giveaway games, the Marvel custom comic book was 7% higher than average for a giveaway game (avg. 19,217). It was tied for the highest attended game with a giveaway (Previous highest 10/21 Home Opener, Schedule Magnet & Jersey Rally Towel Giveaway att. 20,476).
